The United States of America and the Nigerian government yesterday at a meeting convened by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission {NIPC} in Abuja signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Commercial Investment Dialogue (CID) to strengthen bilateral investments and promote private sector involvement in the bilateral commercial relationship.

The meeting was convened to discuss the modalities of the dialogue, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Department of Commerce, Seward Jones, said the two countries would identify barriers to investments and trade as well as opportunities in mutual investments and trade. He went further to say that the two countries would prioritise investments in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and digital economy.

The meeting was a follow-up to the signing ceremony held earlier in the morning at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
The Executive Secretary of the NIPC, Ms. Yewade Sadiku who was represented by a director in the commission, Balla Bello said “the essence of the CID is to promote and sustain economic engagement between the two countries and identify sectors that will bring bilateral investments and that a desk will be setup to monitor and evaluate progress by the private sector on investment relations between the two countries.”
