Amazon To create 1500 new jobs with the opening of first Missouri fulfillment center in St. Peters.

MISSOURI. Amazon has announced that it will be opening its first Missouri fulfillment center in St. Peters, the company announced early Wednesday.
The more than 800,000 square foot facility will create more than 1500 jobs with robotics to assist employees in fulfilling orders.

The new facility will be built in Duke Realty's Premier 370 business park, which already includes tenants such as Best Buy, Reckitt Benckiser and SAIA and Grove Collaborative.

The new St. Peters facility will be Amazon's first fulfillment center in the state but it already employs several hundred people in north St. Louis County.

“The online retailer will receive up to $7.95 million in sales tax exemptions from the state of Missouri to help support the project and will also receive nearly $3 million in non-manufacturing personal property incentives and up to $100,000 from the Skilled Workforce Missouri program to fund development and operations,” a state spokeswoman said.
"We're excited to continue growing our team with our first, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Missouri," Sanjay Shah, Amazon's Vice President of North America Customer Fulfillment, said in a statement. "Our ability to expand in Missouri is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce. Amazon is committed to providing great opportunities for employment and creating a positive economic impact for the region."
"Amazon's choice to locate in Missouri speaks to our strength as North America's logistics center," Rob Dixon, Director of Missouri's Department of Economic Development said in a statement. "Our central location, international airports and extensive highway, rail and river networks position Missouri as an ideal location for this new facility."

"This is a major investment that reflects the growing shift to e-commerce and will add more than 1,500 new, full-time jobs in St. Charles County," County Executive Steve Ehlmann said. "Amazon's decision is just one more indication that St. Charles County is being recognized as an exceptional place to live, work and do business."

Duke is requesting the city of St. Peters issue $75 million in industrial development revenue bonds to help pay for the new warehouse and distribution building in the business park. The building will be located at 4000 Premier Parkway.

“Construction of the building should begin in a few weeks, with the facility being complete in May 2019,” Matt Hrubes, Duke’s Vice President of leasing and development said in a statement.
